[U.S. Senate Republicans Reject Democrats' Latest Proposal to End Homeland Security Shutdown]
Jin10 News, March 26 – According to foreign media reports, U.S. Senate Republicans have rejected the Democrats' latest proposal to end the prolonged shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, a deadlock that has severely disrupted air travel and is set to continue. Senate Majority Leader John Thune stated that regarding the proposal, "It doesn't even qualify as serious." He said the proposal is essentially a list of nine demands, including requiring law enforcement officers to stop using masks and start using judicial search warrants.
The Democrats have not publicly disclosed the details of their proposal, but they have previously called for enhanced training for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel, expanded use of body cameras, and badges that clearly display the names of law enforcement officers. Thune emphasized that he would not accept any policy adjustments to immigration enforcement unless the funding agreement simultaneously provides resources for these law enforcement activities.
