According to a report by Economic Observer, Ba Shusong, Chief Economist of the China Banking Association and Senior Advisor at the Peking University HSBC Financial Research Institute, is suspected of being involved in a case of illegal fundraising. He was taken away by authorities around March 12, 2026, and has since been 'out of contact' with the outside world. Sources indicate that the case may be related to an illegal fundraising project led by his students, and Ba Shusong had reportedly been restricted from leaving the country for at least six months prior. Neither his affiliated institutions nor Ba himself have publicly responded to the situation so far.
