According to Wu Blockchain, Balancer co-founder Fernando Martinelli announced that Balancer Labs will be shutting down, primarily due to legal risks stemming from the November 2025 vulnerability incident and the lack of revenue under the current company structure, making it unsustainable. Moving forward, the protocol will operate under a DAO, foundation, and service provider model, with some core members planning to join Balancer OpCo (pending governance vote). He also supports advancing a series of structural adjustments, including stopping BAL incentive emissions, gradually phasing out veBAL, allocating 100% of protocol fees to the DAO, optimizing fee distribution mechanisms, implementing BAL buybacks to provide exit liquidity, and narrowing product scope and on-chain deployments to reduce costs and enhance sustainability.
