[Moody's: ECB's April Rate Decision Will Be More 'Contentious']
Jin10 News, March 19 – Camille Koval, Director of Economic Research at Moody's Analytics, stated that with today's European Central Bank (ECB) decision finalized, market concerns over the bank's spring rate hike have eased. Koval noted: 'The decision to keep rates unchanged in March is the easiest one this year, as it is still too early to react to the surge in oil and gas prices. If prices remain near current levels by the next meeting at the end of April, the decision will be much more contentious.'
He added: 'However, today's statement leans toward maintaining a wait-and-see approach even in April. The Governing Council has explicitly emphasized that its focus will be on medium-term inflation—compared to short-term inflation, the impact of energy prices on medium-term inflation is far more ambiguous.'
