[European Central Bank Launches Digital Euro ATM and Payment Terminal Integration Working Groups] On March 19, the European Central Bank announced the opening of expert applications for two new working groups under the Rulebook Development Group to advance the implementation of the digital euro in ATMs, payment terminals, and acceptance infrastructure. The first working group will establish implementation specifications for ATM and terminal providers, covering communication technologies, offline transaction capabilities, and the reuse of existing payment standards. The second working group will develop testing, certification, and approval process plans for payment service providers. These working groups will report to the Rulebook Development Group. The European Central Bank plans to launch a 12-month digital euro pilot in the second half of 2027, involving selected merchants, Eurosystem staff, and payment service providers.
