Another payment solution between Agents
Stripe's latest MPP—I think a lot of people are underestimating it.
This isn’t just a small feature for Agents to use Stripe for payments; it’s pushing machine payments into the protocol layer.
The logic is simple: An Agent requests an API, tool, MCP service, or any HTTP resource, the server directly returns HTTP 402 with a payment challenge. The Agent authorizes the payment, retries, and only then is the resource delivered.
The key is that Stripe didn’t limit this to just on-chain stablecoins.
MPP supports on-chain payment address modes on one hand, while on the other, it integrates traditional payment methods like cards and wallets through Shared Payment Tokens.
x402 feels more like a crypto rail, MPP more like a unified protocol wrapper, and ACP is the higher-level agent checkout protocol.
In other words, Stripe is transforming payments from a checkout button on a webpage into a standard action that machines can negotiate, authorize, and settle.
Once protocols like MPP mature, software will start selling actions that are directly settleable.
This is the truly valuable infrastructure in the Agent economy.
