[Block, Inc. Laid Off 4,000 Employees Last Month, Some Have Been Rehired]
According to Golden Finance, on March 19, Jack Dorsey's payment company Block, Inc. quietly rehired some employees after laying off thousands at the end of February to advance a transition more reliant on artificial intelligence.
Several Block employees stated on LinkedIn this month that after being included in the layoff list of approximately 4,000 people, they received invitations from the company to return.
Design engineer Andrew Harvard mentioned on March 3 that he had rejoined the company, which claimed his layoff was due to a "clerical error." He said, "They gave me the opportunity to come back, and I have accepted it."
On March 8, technical lead Richard Hesse stated that he was the only person in his team not laid off and spent two days convincing management of the need for more staff to continue advancing "critical infrastructure for customers."
He said, "I’m glad they listened to my request and decided to rehire some of the laid-off employees. While the team is not yet fully restored, it is sufficient to continue working.
