[Alert: Phishing Site Imitating Pudgy Penguins' New Game Attempting to Steal Users' Wallet Passwords]
According to Decrypt, cybersecurity company Malwarebytes Labs has warned that a fake website impersonating Pudgy Penguins' newly released game, Pudgy World, is attempting to steal cryptocurrency wallet passwords. The phishing site, pudgypengu-gamegifts[.]live, uses a highly realistic replica of a cryptocurrency wallet interface to deceive users. When visitors select a wallet on the fake site, it displays what appears to be a legitimate wallet unlock interface, leading users to mistakenly believe it is a trusted cryptocurrency wallet application.
Malwarebytes pointed out that the timing of this phishing campaign seems to be carefully planned, coinciding with the game's launch and a surge of new users. The attack targets almost all mainstream wallets, suggesting that the perpetrators may be well-resourced threat actors or are using a commercial phishing toolkit. Users are advised to access the official website only through trusted bookmarks, avoid clicking on links from social media, and be cautious of prompts for wallet passwords within web pages.
