[Vitalik: ZK Technology Cannot Replace the Importance of Nodes]
Foresight News reports that Vitalik Buterin has published an article stating that the idea that zero-knowledge proofs (ZK) imply running nodes is unimportant is inherently misleading (he himself was misled by this idea for a long time). Users need more than just verifying the correctness of header information; they also need the ability to read the blockchain in a privacy-protecting and censorship-resistant manner. Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) cannot provide this capability, not even Helios or Colibri. The future of Ethereum lies in becoming a network with data and transaction processing volumes far exceeding what a single node needs to handle, but to truly achieve permissionless and bottleneck-free operation, more than just zero-knowledge proofs will be required.
