[Illinois Primary: AI and Crypto Industry Lobbying Groups Face Setbacks in Multiple Elections]
Odaily Planet Daily News – Results from the Illinois primary began to emerge on the evening of March 17 local time. The crypto industry, through the super PAC Fairshake, invested over $13 million in the state’s elections, including nearly $10 million opposing Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton’s bid for Senate and more than $3 million in two campaigns targeting candidates supporting cryptocurrency consumer protection regulations. The AI industry spent approximately $2.5 million on two House races.
In the 7th District, despite pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC spending nearly $5 million and crypto industry PAC Fairshake contributing nearly $2.5 million, state representative La Shawn Ford, who supports consumer protection regulations, defeated his opponent to secure the nomination.
In the 2nd District, Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller, backed by AIPAC, defeated former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., who was supported by the AI industry PAC.
In the 8th District, former Congresswoman Melissa Bean, supported by AIPAC as well as crypto and AI industry PACs, defeated progressive candidate Junaid Ahmed.
The Illinois primary involved five House seats and one Senate seat, with external groups spending over $50 million in total. Of this, expenditures related to AIPAC, the crypto industry, and the AI industry exceeded $35 million.
