US ALLOWING IRANIAN OIL TANKERS THROUGH HORMUZ
The U.S. is allowing Iranian oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz to help maintain global supply, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Monday in an interview with CNBC.
Tanker traffic has fallen after Iranian attacks on commercial ships in the Persian Gulf, but Iran continues exporting about 1.5 million barrels of oil per day through the route.
Bessent said traffic could increase before U.S. and allied naval forces begin escorting commercial vessels. Some tankers bound for India and possibly China have already left the Gulf.(*Walter Bloomberg)
