[ByteDance Halts Global Launch Plan for Seedance 2.0 Due to Copyright Dispute]
Odaily Planet Daily reports, citing sources familiar with the matter, that ByteDance has suspended the global launch plan for its video generation model Seedance 2.0 following copyright disputes with multiple Hollywood studios and streaming platforms. Previously, Disney sent a cease-and-desist letter to ByteDance, accusing it of using Disney characters to train the Seedance 2.0 model without authorization and alleging that ByteDance preloaded the model with a library of copyrighted characters from franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel. ByteDance released the model in February this year, with an initial plan to roll it out to global users in mid-March. Currently, its legal team is investigating potential legal issues, and engineers are enhancing protective mechanisms to prevent the model from generating content that could lead to intellectual property infringement.
