[Former Coinbase CTO: Efforts Should Be Increased to Develop Crypto Tools for Refugees and Stateless Individuals]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports, on March 15, former Coinbase Chief Technology Officer Balaji Srinivasan posted on X, stating that efforts should be increased to develop crypto tools suitable for refugees and stateless individuals. He pointed out that there may be more such groups in the future, including Ukrainian war refugees, Californians relocating, and workers in the Gulf region threatened by missiles.
Crypto technology is essentially the 'wartime mode of the internet,' with public blockchain designs capable of resisting data center attacks and network blockades. Stablecoins have already gained global adoption and are playing a role (e.g., gold-backed stablecoins). Balaji suggested starting by building reliable consumer tools during peacetime, which can adapt to wartime needs without significant modifications. He cited Signal's applicability in impoverished regions as an example and urged the industry, 'We can do more.'
