TRUMP: IRAN READY FOR CEASEFIRE — BUT “TERMS NOT GOOD ENOUGH”
President Donald Trump said Iran is willing to negotiate a ceasefire but he refuses to make a deal yet, saying the terms are “not good enough.”
In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump said any agreement would likely require Iran to completely abandon nuclear ambitions, though he declined to reveal specific conditions.
He also said the U.S. is working with other countries to secure the Strait of Hormuz as oil prices rise, and dismissed concerns about higher gas prices in the U.S.
Trump claimed recent U.S. strikes have destroyed much of Iran’s missile and drone capabilities and said Kharg Island was “totally demolished,” though energy infrastructure was spared.
He also questioned whether Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is even alive, calling reports of his death a rumor.
Separately, Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying he is harder to negotiate with than Russian President Vladimir Putin as the U.S. tries to end the war in Ukraine.
