Dan Bin says, the iron rule of the U.S. stock market has never changed.
Every year, there’s almost always a correction of over 10%. This is the normal state of the market, not the end of risk.
Looking back at the past three years:
In August 2024, the yen interest rate hike triggered capital outflows, leading to adjustments in U.S. stocks;
In March and April 2025, trade tensions escalated, and panic sentiment caused indices to dip;
In February and March 2026, Middle Eastern geopolitical conflicts intensified, stirring up market waves again.
The causes of these three corrections were different, but they all prove one fact: every major bull market is inevitably accompanied by the baptism of volatility.
Zooming out to a longer time frame, the S&P 500 index has seen intra-year corrections of over 10% countless times over the decades, yet its long-term annualized returns remain steady.
Most of these fluctuations stem from short-term noise like geopolitical conflicts, policy shifts, and trade disputes. While they seem impactful, they’ve never shaken the core trend of industrial upgrades. Just like during the early days of the internet boom, frequent setbacks like bubble bursts and tightened regulations couldn’t stop the march of technological revolution reshaping the world.
Now, in the era of artificial intelligence, history is repeating itself. As a new wave of productivity revolution, the process of AI technology implementation, industry penetration, and profit realization is bound to come with valuation disagreements and emotional swings.
Many investors fail because they get swept up in short-term noise—panicking and exiting during corrections, chasing highs during recoveries, and ultimately missing out on the opportunities of the era.
True long-term investing lies in seeing through the volatility to grasp the essence. Don’t stress over the routine corrections every year; instead, view them as opportunities to position yourself in quality assets.
Ignore short-term disturbances and stick to the core theme of the AI revolution. This resilience against noise is the key to navigating cycles and seizing the dividends of the era.
Great eras are never smooth sailing. Only by believing in the long term and staying committed to value can you become the ultimate winner.
