🇺🇸The United States is quietly preparing for a much larger confrontation with Iran. According to three U.S. officials, around 5,000 Marines are now moving toward the Middle East as the conflict escalates. These are not ordinary deployments. They come from a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) — elite rapid-response forces specifically designed to be “first on the ground” in wartime scenarios. These units operate from amphibious assault ships and can launch air, sea, and ground operations within hours. Their job is simple: secure territory, protect strategic assets, and open the door for larger military deployments. This deployment comes shortly after the U.S. struck military targets on Kharg Island. But Kharg Island is not just another military site. It is the center of Iran’s OIL economy. Roughly 90% of Iran’s oil exports leave the country through this single island. President Trump said the U.S. “obliterated every military target” on the island, but deliberately avoided destroying the oil facilities. At least for now. Trump has warned that any interference with shipping in the Strait of Hormuz could lead to strikes on Iran’s entire oil infrastructure. That is where the 5,000 troops become especially important. The Wall Street Journal noted the deployment gives Trump a potential option to seize Kharg Island itself, though analysts say that would be difficult and highly escalatory. So the implication is bigger than “more troops are arriving.” The US is now positioning forces not just to respond to a Hormuz shutdown, but potentially to take control of the infrastructure at the center of Iran’s oil exports.(Coin Bureau)
