Elon Musk’s latest prediction: As long as there’s no war, global GDP will increase tenfold in the next 10 years.
Last night, I summarized Musk’s latest 2-hour speech, which mainly touched on three points: AI is already self-improving, humanoid robots are about to enter mass production, and the post-AI singularity economy, where he believes 'money will no longer matter.'
1. Global GDP will increase tenfold in the next 10 years.
Musk’s reasoning is:
Future economic output = average productivity of robots × number of robots.
Both variables will rise simultaneously in the future.
By the early 2030s, the number of robots may exceed the human population, working 24/7 without needing wages.
2. In the future, 'money may no longer matter.'
The output of goods and services will far exceed the supply of currency, leading to direct deflation.
Governments will distribute money to everyone, but the surplus production will make it hard to spend it all.
Musk’s exact words: 'In the future, AI won’t use human currency. It only cares about watts and tonnage.'
If this path holds true, hoarding fiat currency or bonds will likely be a mistake. Energy, computing power, and metals will become the hard assets in a deflationary era.
3. AI is already self-iterating.
Musk described AI progress as multiple overlapping S-curves, where each breakthrough triggers a surge, followed by a slowdown, and then another breakthrough starts a new curve. Every few months, someone claims 'AI has peaked,' only to be proven wrong because they’re only seeing the tail end of one curve.
4. Humanoid robot Optimus 3 will begin production this summer.
Musk said it’s 'the most advanced humanoid robot in the world, with nothing else close to it.' Initial production will be small, with mass production starting next summer. Optimus 4’s design will be completed next year, with a new generation released annually. Fremont will first build a production line for 1 million units per year, followed by Giga Texas with a 10 million units per year capacity. If this iteration pace is achieved, other players won’t be able to catch up.
5. Good news and bad news.
There’s an 80% chance the future will be good. But before the era of abundance arrives, there may be 2-5 years of social upheaval, requiring welfare distribution to transition.
During this window, the gap between those who can use AI and those who can’t will be completely torn open.
