SEC and CFTC Reach Biggest Regulatory Settlement in a Decade On March 12, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and CFTC Chairman Michael Selig revealed during an interview with The All-In Podcast channel that both parties are working to end the decades-long 'turf war' between the two regulatory agencies. The SEC Chairman candidly stated that the 'turf war' at the staff level between the two agencies in the past was like crossfire in a no man's land, stifling numerous innovative products. The CFTC Chairman mentioned that both sides are promoting new coordination mechanisms, including signing a memorandum of understanding to share information and exploring 'alternative compliance mechanisms' to prevent companies from falling into dual regulation. He also noted that cross-jurisdictional products like prediction markets and crypto protocols are becoming key areas where the two agencies need to collaborate on regulation.
