[Coinbase Denies Obstructing Bitcoin Microtransaction Tax Exemption Policy]
BlockBeats News, March 13: Coinbase executives have denied allegations of obstructing the Bitcoin microtransaction tax exemption policy. Previously, Bitcoin advocates speculated on social media that Coinbase had told lawmakers that Bitcoin is not widely used as a medium of exchange, and therefore does not require a tax exemption.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong called the allegations 'completely false' and stated that the company has consistently lobbied for Bitcoin's microtransaction tax exemption policy and will continue to do so. Coinbase's Chief Legal Officer and Chief Policy Officer also reiterated that they have 'never lobbied against Bitcoin.' Currently, U.S. lawmakers are considering providing tax exemptions for stablecoins pegged to the U.S. dollar, but Bitcoin is not included in the tax exemption scope of the draft Cryptocurrency Market Structure Act (also known as the CLARITY Act).
