[Coinbase Executive Denies Lobbying Against Bitcoin Microtransaction Tax Exemption Policy]
According to a report by Cointelegraph, a Coinbase executive has denied allegations that the exchange obstructed the tax exemption policy for Bitcoin microtransactions. Previously, Bitcoin advocates speculated on social media that Coinbase had told lawmakers that Bitcoin is not widely used as a medium of exchange, and therefore does not require a tax exemption. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong responded by calling the allegations 'completely false' and stated that he has always lobbied for Bitcoin microtransaction tax exemption policies and will continue to do so. Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal and Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad also reiterated that they have 'never lobbied against Bitcoin.' Currently, U.S. lawmakers are considering providing tax exemptions for stablecoins pegged to the U.S. dollar, but Bitcoin is not included in the tax exemption scope of the CLARITY Act draft.
