Data: As developers shift towards AI projects, the submission volume of encrypted project code has decreased by 75%
According to CoinDesk, Artemis data shows a significant decline in developer activity for blockchain projects since early 2025, with weekly code submissions decreasing by approximately 75% and active developers decreasing by 56%. In sharp contrast, the overall number of GitHub developers increased by about 36 million in 2025, with a total of over 180 million, and the platform's overall submission volume increased by about 25% year-on-year. The growth mainly flows into the field of artificial intelligence. GitHub now has over 4.3 million AI related repositories, and the number of repositories importing large language model SDKs has surged by 178% to over 1.1 million. Generative AI projects attract over 1 million contributors every month.
In the field of encryption, the number of major network developers has generally declined. Ethereum's weekly active developers decreased by 34% to 2811, Solana decreased by 40% to 942, and Base decreased by 52% to 378. Aptos, BNB Chain, and Celo have experienced greater declines. The only growth segment is wallet infrastructure, with a 6% increase in weekly active developers to 308 people. The data shows that the encryption field may be experiencing consolidation rather than complete collapse, with the number of developers with over two years of experience increasing by 27% year-on-year. Currently, they contribute about 70% of code submissions, and the main departures are part-time contributors and newcomers with less than 12 months of experience.
