[Security Council Fails to Pass Russia's Resolution on Iran]
Golden Finance reports that on the afternoon of March 11 local time, and in the early hours of March 12 Beijing time, the United Nations Security Council failed to pass a resolution draft submitted by Russia aimed at urging an end to conflicts in the Middle East. The vote resulted in 4 votes in favor, 2 against, and 9 abstentions. Russia, China, Pakistan, and Somalia cast votes in favor, while the United States and Latvia voted against.
The resolution draft expressed condolences for the 'tragic loss of life' caused by ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, called on all parties involved in the conflict to immediately cease military actions, and urged them to avoid further escalation in the region and beyond. The draft condemned all attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, called for the protection of such targets in accordance with international humanitarian law, and emphasized the importance of ensuring the security of all countries in the region.
Additionally, the resolution draft urged all parties to 'return to the negotiating table without further delay' and to fully utilize political and diplomatic means to resolve the crisis. (CCTV International News)
