Minister Williams responded to concerns raised by the Independent Fiscal Commission about the Government’s economic projections. Minister Williams explained that the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures the cost of living, is different from the GDP deflator, which measures price changes for goods and services produced in Jamaica. Minister Williams noted that rising costs, particularly in construction and rebuilding, are contributing to higher local prices. She added that much of the reconstruction activity across the country is being driven by the private sector, including businesses and homeowners.(Andrew Holness)
