[TD Cowen: U.S. Congress Nears Permanent Ban on Federal Reserve Issuing CBDC]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, investment bank TD Cowen stated that the U.S. Congress may soon permanently ban the Federal Reserve from issuing a digital dollar. Senator Ted Cruz submitted an amendment last week aiming to make the current temporary ban, which lasts until 2030, permanent. The bill could be voted on as early as this week.
TD Cowen believes that a permanent ban would reinforce the status quo rather than change policy, benefiting stablecoin issuers by eliminating concerns about potential disruption to their business from a future digital dollar issued by the Federal Reserve. However, the ban could also create additional obstacles for crypto market structure legislation such as the 'Clarity Act.'
