According to Forbes, a report released in 2026 by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) revealed that at least 300,000 people from 66 countries were forced to participate in online scam operations globally. A significant number of these scam hubs are concentrated in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. Chainalysis data shows that global crypto scam losses in 2025 amounted to approximately $17 billion, with long-term emotional and investment scams like 'pig-butchering scams' increasing by about 40% year-over-year. The report highlights that scam organizations are scaling up using 'Fraud-as-a-Service' toolkits and AI deepfake technologies, making scams more automated and globalized.
