A French couple was robbed by fake police and forced to hand over approximately $1 million in Bitcoin
Odaily Planet Daily reported that a French couple in their 50s were robbed by fake police officers at their home in western Paris, and were forced to transfer about 900000 euros (about 1 million US dollars) in Bitcoin. The incident happened on Monday morning, three suspect who pretended to be policemen broke into the house in Le Chesnay Rockcourt, threatened the couple with knives and forced him to transfer Bitcoin. The criminal then tied up the man, injured two people, and drove away in a white van. The wife subsequently rescued her husband and reported to the police and informed the neighbors around 9am local time. It is reported that the case has been investigated by the French Anti Violent Crime Brigade, and the charges involved include illegal detention, organized gang armed robbery, and criminal conspiracy. As of Tuesday, there have been no reports of arrests. This case reflects the increasing trend of "wrench attacks" targeting holders of encrypted assets. According to data from the cybersecurity platform CertiK, there will be 72 verified cases of this kind worldwide by 2025, an increase of 75% compared to the previous year, with 19 cases occurring in France, the highest in the world.
