[The first victims of OpenClaw have emerged: 270,000 exposed lobsters]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, citing Fast Technology, at the beginning of 2026, an open-source project called OpenClaw swept through GitHub at lightning speed. It garnered 9,000 stars in just one day, and two weeks later, the star count surpassed 170,000. In no time, the iconic lobster logo appeared on the front pages of major social media platforms, becoming the hottest topic in the tech community.
However, with OpenClaw's explosive popularity, the first batch of victims has started to emerge. Many users, during the deployment process, accidentally exposed the control interface directly to the public internet. OpenClaw provides control services by default through port 18789, and if strict authentication is not configured, any network scanning tool can easily locate it. Once these interfaces are connected by attackers, they can directly take control of an AI agent with the highest system privileges. A tool originally designed to provide convenience can instantly become a springboard for others to control your computer or server. Currently, the number of exposed lobster instances detected has reached as high as 270,000.
