[Anthropic Sues Pentagon to Prevent Being Placed on National Security Blacklist] According to Foresight News, as reported by Reuters, Anthropic has filed a lawsuit aiming to prevent the U.S. Pentagon from placing it on the national security blacklist. The lawsuit stems from Anthropic's refusal to remove restrictions on the use of its AI technology in autonomous weapons or domestic surveillance, after which the U.S. Department of Defense classified it as a national security supply chain risk. In the complaint filed in federal court in California, Anthropic stated that the designation is unlawful, infringes on its rights to free speech and due process, and requested the judge to overturn the designation. Previously, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth placed Anthropic on the risk list due to its refusal to modify usage rules, and President Trump has also directed the government to cease cooperation with Anthropic, setting a six-month buffer period. Meanwhile, OpenAI has announced an agreement with the Department of Defense to use its technology within the department's networks. Anthropic maintains that current AI models are not reliable enough for autonomous weapons and that their use in domestic surveillance violates fundamental rights.
