[U.S. Senator Kelly Proposes Suspension of Federal Gasoline Tax Until October 1]
According to a report by Reuters, U.S. Democratic Senator Mark Kelly proposed on Friday local time to suspend the federal gasoline tax of 18.4 cents per gallon until October 1 to help Americans facing rising oil prices due to the U.S.-Iran conflict. According to AAA, a U.S. travel organization that tracks fuel prices, national gasoline prices have risen by 35 cents over the past week, reaching an average of $3.32 per gallon. Political analysts suggest that the continued rise in gasoline prices could negatively impact Trump's Republican colleagues in the November midterm elections, as they strive to maintain their majority in Congress. Kelly plans to introduce the bill in the Senate next week. If passed, the U.S. Treasury Department will oversee the implementation of the tax suspension to ensure that the saved tax funds are truly reflected in lower gasoline prices, benefiting consumers.
