[Hong Kong Uncovers HK$230 Million Gold and Silver Smuggling Case, Largest Recorded Precious Metals Smuggling Case] According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on March 6, Caixin reported that Hong Kong Customs recently uncovered two air freight smuggling cases involving suspected precious metals at Hong Kong International Airport. Approximately 168 kilograms of suspected gold sheets and about 285 kilograms of suspected silver sheets were seized, with an estimated market value of around HK$230 million. Based on the market value of the smuggled goods, this is the largest recorded precious metals smuggling case uncovered by Customs. Under Hong Kong's Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is a serious offense. Anyone importing or exporting unmanifested cargo, upon conviction, may face a maximum fine of HK$2 million and imprisonment for 7 years.
