[U.S. Democrats Propose Legislation to Restrict Prediction Markets Amid Concerns Over Insider Trading Related to Iran War]
According to Cointelegraph, U.S. Democratic Senator Chris Murphy posted a video on the X platform stating that last Friday, someone placed a 'very specific bet' on 'the U.S. going to war with Iran on Saturday.' He pointed out that it is evident that individuals close to Trump were aware of Saturday's actions in advance, and these bettors likely had access to insider information. Murphy warned that if such war gambling continues, those close to the president might 'push us into war' for personal profit. Last Saturday, multiple related bets were widely circulated on Polymarket.
Reuters reported that Murphy and Democratic Representative Mike Levin are working on drafting a bill to strengthen regulation of prediction markets such as Polymarket and Kalshi. Levin stated that profiting from foreknowledge of military actions 'should absolutely be illegal.' He noted that while commodity laws prohibit event contracts involving war, terrorism, and other matters 'contrary to public interest,' current regulations grant prediction markets too much freedom.
