[New York State Proposes New Bill to Ban AI Chatbots from Providing Legal and Medical Advice]
According to Deep Tide TechFlow on March 6, as reported by U.S. media outlet Statescoop, the New York State Legislature is reviewing a bill that seeks to prohibit AI chatbots from offering legal or medical advice, while also allowing users to file lawsuits against operators of chatbots that violate the rules. Senate Bill S7263 was introduced in the previous session and was passed unanimously (6-0) by the Internet and Technology Committee last Wednesday local time. It is part of a legislative package aimed at regulating AI chatbots. The bill specifically targets AI chatbots impersonating licensed professionals such as doctors and lawyers, prohibiting them from providing any "substantive responses, information, or advice" that may violate licensing laws or constitute the unauthorized practice of law.
