Looks like competition is the primary driving force. OpenAI skipped 5.3 and went straight to 5.4. Meanwhile, Anthropic has also compromised and will continue working with the U.S. military, which might help ChatGPT win back some C-end users. By the way, ever since I stopped renewing my subscription a couple of days ago, it actually seems to work a bit better.
