[Oracle Plans to Lay Off Thousands of Employees to Address Funding Shortages Caused by AI Development]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, Oracle (ORCL.N) plans to lay off thousands of employees to address financial strain caused by the large-scale expansion of AI data centers. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the layoffs will affect various departments within the company and could be implemented as early as this month. Two of the sources stated that some of the layoffs will target job categories that the company expects to see reduced demand for due to the development of artificial intelligence.
Institutional data compiled by analysts indicates that Wall Street expects Oracle's data center spending in its cloud computing division to keep the company's cash flow negative for the next few years, with returns not anticipated until 2030. Last month, Oracle announced plans to raise up to $50 billion this year through a combination of bond and stock issuances.
