[US Media: The US Considers Providing Military Protection and Insurance Support for Oil Tankers in the Strait of Hormuz]
According to a report by Jinse Finance citing Politico, two informed sources revealed on Tuesday that the Trump administration is considering providing military protection for oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to curb the surging energy prices following Iran's warning of attacks on vessels in this critical chokepoint.
When asked about the possibility of U.S. Navy ships escorting vessels through the strait, one informed source stated: "Military support will be provided for oil and gas supplies." The source added: "As military actions intensify and the geographical scope expands, the energy market may face pressure in the coming days, and this concern is growing. Access to the Strait of Hormuz is clearly crucial for the transportation of natural gas and crude oil, especially from Qatar and Saudi Arabia."
A third informed source indicated that the government is also considering providing insurance support, backed by the U.S. government, for oil tankers crossing the strait. Although the strait technically remains open, maritime insurance companies are raising rates and, in some cases, canceling coverage for tankers operating in the region.
