The European Banking Authority (EBA) announced that the temporary transitional exemption for Crypto Asset Service Providers (CASPs) under the Payment Services Directive PSD2 officially ended on March 2. Starting today, CASPs involved in payment or transfer services related to Electronic Money Tokens (EMTs) must obtain a PSD2 payment institution or electronic money institution license; otherwise, they must immediately cease related payment services. EBA stated that institutions already approved under PSD2 can operate normally; those with applications under review may continue services under certain restrictions (e.g., no new customers or marketing activities); institutions that have not submitted applications or are non-compliant must immediately terminate payment operations.
