[BitMEX Co-Founder Ben Delo Pledges £20 Million to the London Institute for Mathematical Sciences]
According to Cointelegraph, BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo has pledged £20 million to the London Institute for Mathematical Sciences. This donation includes £13.3 million as an upfront payment, with an additional £13.3 million to be released once the institute secures matching funds through additional fundraising. This is one of the largest private donations received by a UK research institution outside of Oxford and Cambridge and will be used to help the institute establish an £80 million endowment fund to ensure long-term development. Delo co-founded BitMEX in 2014, pleaded guilty in 2022 to violating U.S. banking regulations, and paid a $10 million fine. He was pardoned by President Trump in March 2025.
