After Anthropic was blacklisted by the Pentagon, CEO Dario Amodei gave his first interview.
Visible fatigue, but resolute attitude.
When asked 'What do you want to say to the President now?' he didn't hesitate:
We are patriotic Americans. Everything we do is for this country
But why were they banned? Behind it is the truth that Washington dare not speak.
Once, Anthropic was the first AI laboratory to be granted access to military classified systems. They originally intended to assist in national defense.
But the Pentagon has crossed the line. They demand:
❌ Unrestricted access to fully autonomous weapons
❌ The ability to conduct large-scale surveillance on American citizens
Amodei drew a red line. I said 'no'.
What did you get in exchange for?
The government used its emergency powers from the Cold War era (Defense Production Act) to blacklist this American domestic company as a "foreign hostile force" in the supply chain.
In the face of accusations of 'anti Americanism', Amodei's counterattack was only one sentence, but every word was clear:
Opposing the government is the most American style behavior
Anthropic held its bottom line and paid the price of being banned.
This is the backbone that technology companies should have.
Who do you think should determine the boundary between AI weaponization and surveillance? Government or technology company?
