Vitalik shared a post outlining the Ethereum scaling roadmap, divided into short-term and long-term plans.
In the short term, the Glamsterdam upgrade will introduce block-level access lists, ePBS, and gas repricing, while advancing the multidimensional gas mechanism. The first step is separating the cost of 'state creation' from regular execution gas to increase execution capacity while controlling state size growth.
For the long term, the roadmap includes advancing PeerDAS to improve blob data throughput and gradually increasing reliance on ZK-EVM. For example, in 2026, a small number of validators will use it, with expanded adoption and higher gas limits in 2027. Eventually, it will transition to a mandatory multi-proof mechanism, relying on ZK proofs for validation and supporting greater scaling capacity.
