[German Chancellor Merz to Seek Clear Answers from Trump on Tariff Issues During Washington Talks] Jin10 News, February 27 – German Chancellor Merz will meet with U.S. President Trump next Tuesday in Washington to seek a clear explanation regarding the U.S. tariff policy on EU goods. An EU assessment has found that Trump's new tariff policy would raise tariffs on certain EU export goods, such as cheese and some agricultural products, beyond the limits set by the EU-U.S. trade agreement. After the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Trump's move to impose tariffs using emergency powers, he announced a new global 10% tariff policy, followed by a threat to raise it to 15%. "Like the European Commission, the German government also wishes to uphold the tariff agreement reached between the EU and the U.S.," said Sebastian Hille, deputy spokesperson for the Merz administration, on Friday. "Therefore, the government is maintaining close communication with the EU's executive body, as both sides hope the U.S. will honor the agreement reached last summer to impose a 15% tariff on European imports.
