[South Korea National Tax Service Press Release Accidentally Exposes Mnemonic Phrase, Approximately $4.8 Million in Seized Cryptocurrency Stolen]
According to South Korea's *Asia Economy*, the National Tax Service of South Korea released press materials on February 26 regarding on-site investigations of 124 individuals with high-value and habitual tax arrears. The materials included photos from the scene that revealed the mnemonic phrase of a seized cryptocurrency hardware wallet, Ledger, without any mosaic or redaction. Blockchain data expert Jaewoo Cho (조재우) stated that shortly after the mnemonic phrase was leaked, the wallet containing 4 million PRTG tokens was completely transferred to an unidentified wallet in the early hours of February 27, with estimated losses amounting to approximately 6.4 billion KRW (around $4.8 million). Analysis shows that the thief first deposited a small amount of Ethereum into the wallet as a transaction fee and then transferred all the tokens in three separate transactions.
