TikTok user Bogdan Peschir was accused of supporting far-right candidate Călin Georgescu by tipping influencers and liking posts, helping him secure 22.9% of the votes in the first round. Prosecutors stated that Peschir spent approximately $900,000 in the 10 months leading up to the election, including $381,000 in gifts to accounts supporting Georgescu during the final 31 days. The Romanian government accused Russia of interfering in the election through fake accounts and cyberattacks. After a re-election in May 2025, mainstream candidate Nicușor Dan won with 53.6% of the vote. The case remains under investigation.
