Layoff 4000 employees, but stock price skyrockets | In the era of AI, human value is being rewritten. What should you understand?
Jack Dorsey has issued a shareholder letter announcing that his company Block has laid off over 4000 employees, reducing the total number of staff from 10000 to less than 6000.
The reason is only a few words: "Intelligent tools have changed the meaning of building and operating a company
The miraculous thing is that on that night, the stock price rose by 24%.
So is it true that humans are entering the countdown to being replaced by AI?
Before the industrial era, people relied on physical strength;
In the industrial era, people relied on skills;
In the information age, people rely on knowledge;
What about the AI era?
If even the abilities of "decision-making, creation, and expression" are gradually replaced, humanity will face a problem for the first time: the value of your existence is no longer defined by "what you can do".
Actually, it's not that we will be replaced by AI, but that we may start to feel psychologically unable to tolerate entering a form of nihilism.
To be honest, I feel that this era has a very severe impact on the psychological structure of humanity.
Science fiction writer Liu Cixin described an extreme possibility of civilization evolution in his works:
When productivity is strong enough, most people no longer need to participate in production.
They were provided with food and clothing, but completely lost their sense of contribution to this system. They are not laborers or creators, but passive consumers.
This is an extreme version of science fiction. But the feeling it touches, 'Does my existence still have meaning for this system? Am I dispensable in this system?'
The real danger is not being "provided for", but losing the "self narrative"
Once a person is no longer needed, expected, or relied upon, without an inner narrative, they will directly enter hollowing out.
So whether it is possible for us to build our own "meaning system" in the future is the core ability. Why have I been posting content these days, calling on everyone to pay more attention to themselves, read and think, and relax their body and mind, and not to get nervous.
Because the real watershed of the AI era is not: who will use AI
But rather: Who knows what to do with AI
That's the three points I mentioned earlier:
one ️⃣ What problem are you solving
two ️⃣ What judgment and creativity do you have
three ️⃣ Do you have the ability to consistently output value
These three points are essentially answering an ultimate question: when the world no longer needs you, do you still want to actively make yourself needed?
