One more day to go! The self-proclaimed 'most safety-conscious AI company' @AnthropicAI is about to face off against the Pentagon in a political showdown. If Claude sticks firmly to its principles: - Prohibiting involvement in fully autonomous weapon decisions; - Prohibiting mass surveillance targeting citizens; Then what awaits it is devastating punishment: - A $200 million defense contract wiped out; - Potentially being labeled a 'supply chain risk,' forcing any U.S. company with military business to 'cut ties.' Even more absurd, Washington might invoke the Defense Production Act (DPA) to compel it to serve the Pentagon, regardless of its willingness. What’s even funnier is that Anthropic’s clash with the Pentagon has opened up opportunities for competitors. Pentagon officials confirmed that Elon Musk’s xAI has already 'agreed to enter classified environments,' and other companies are 'close to reaching agreements.' No matter how this unfolds, AI can’t escape its fate of becoming a political tool.
