[60,000 Bitcoin Money Laundering Case Hearing on Legal Applicability Scheduled for July: Controversy Arises Over UK High Court's Designated Lead Law Firm]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the hearing on the 'legal applicability' issue (i.e., whether Chinese law or UK law should apply) in the 60,000 Bitcoin money laundering case is scheduled for July. The UK High Court has designated Fieldfisher, a law firm involved in the case from an early stage, as the lead firm for the hearing. However, this decision has sparked controversy. Some law firms are concerned that Fieldfisher may gain an informational advantage, such as access to the list of major investment victims, and potentially use this opportunity to 'poach clients' or 'induce' victims to switch firms through improper means. The judge, however, clarified that this arrangement does not mean Fieldfisher will represent all victims in their asset recovery claims. Instead, Fieldfisher will only represent the collective victim group in discussions with the court on the 'legal applicability' issue. Other law firms will continue to handle their respective clients' claims independently. The appointment of a lead law firm is intended to improve litigation efficiency. (Caixin)
