[U.S. Prosecutor's Office Seizes $61 Million in USDT Linked to Crypto 'Pig Butchering' Scam]
According to Deep Tide TechFlow on February 25, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina has seized over $61 million worth of USDT. These funds were traced to cryptocurrency addresses associated with a crypto investment scam known as the 'pig butchering' scheme. Investigations revealed that criminals often use the guise of establishing romantic relationships to gain victims' trust, then claim to possess professional expertise in earning high profits through cryptocurrency trading. They guide victims to use fake trading platforms that mimic legitimate ones. These platforms display fabricated high-return investment portfolios to entice victims to increase their investments. When victims attempt to withdraw funds, the scammers further extort money by citing excuses such as the need to pay 'taxes' or 'fees.'
