The USA has won over 3,000 Olympic medals, with over 1,200 of those being Gold. What many people don't realize is that our universities are the pipeline for many of these sports that don't get TV attention or funding. Most of these sports only get serious attention once ever 4 years for the Olympics. In the 2024 Olympics, 75% of American athletes came from college teams providing that training and funding. Unfortunately, in universities the bulk of the TV money comes from just basketball and football. In recent years, the other low-revenue sports (many Olympic sports) are getting cut so that universities are better able to compete in basketball and football. The race to remain competitive in those two sports is crowding out other sports. In order to maintain the Olympic pipeline of athletes in universities, there needs to be NCAA reform.(Wall Street Mav)
