[Dutch Regulator Deems Polymarket to Provide Illegal Gambling Services]
According to Decrypt, the Dutch gambling regulator, Netherlands Gambling Authority (Ksa), has issued a penalty order to the prediction market platform Polymarket's operator, Adventure One QSS Inc., determining that it provides 'illegal gambling services' to Dutch users without a license. The regulator has demanded that the platform immediately cease operations in the region, or face fines of €420,000 per week, up to a maximum of €840,000. Ksa emphasized that allowing users to bet on real-world events falls under prohibited activities under Dutch law, and even licensed operators are not permitted to offer such products. The regulator stated that it will focus on the actual functionality of the product rather than the platform's self-positioning when making determinations. This action is part of a global regulatory crackdown on prediction market platforms, including Polymarket and Kalshi.
