[U.S. Democratic Representatives Urge Treasury to Investigate Potential Conflicts of Interest and National Security Risks Involving WLFI]
BlockBeats News, February 20, according to CNBC, dozens of U.S. House Democratic representatives sent a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Besant on Thursday, requesting an investigation into potential conflicts of interest and national security issues related to the Trump family's cryptocurrency project, World Liberty Financial.
The letter was spearheaded by New York Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks and co-signed by 40 other representatives. During a hearing, Meeks referred to Besant as a 'lackey' of Trump and raised concerns about the $500 million investment made last year by UAE royal family members in World Liberty Financial. In a statement released alongside the letter, Meeks said: 'The $500 million transaction between the Trump family and the UAE royal family is not only a matter of national financial stability but also involves serious national security implications.'
The investigation request comes as World Liberty Financial is applying for a national banking license. This license is reviewed and issued by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, an independent agency under the U.S. Treasury responsible for regulating the banking industry.
