[Ng Kit-Chong: Hong Kong to Issue First Batch of Stablecoin Issuer Licenses in March, Hopes Government Will Promote Cryptocurrency Adoption Through Stablecoin Airdrops]
BlockBeats News, February 19 – Hong Kong Legislative Council member Ng Kit-Chong stated on the 78 HOY Info Channel program 'Finance CHAT' that Hong Kong will issue its first batch of stablecoin issuer licenses in March. He expressed hope that the government could promote cryptocurrency adoption among all Hong Kong citizens through stablecoin airdrops.
Ng Kit-Chong pointed out that three years ago, the government distributed HK$10,000 electronic consumption vouchers per person, which significantly popularized electronic payments. He suggested that after stablecoin issuers obtain their licenses, the government could distribute stablecoin airdrops to eligible citizens for spending at local small and medium-sized enterprises (such as dining, entertainment, movie-going, etc.). This would enhance Hong Kong's position as a Web3 and digital asset hub, achieving the dual goals of stimulating the economy and promoting cryptocurrency adoption. Ng emphasized that this initiative is not simply about the government handing out money but about leveraging stablecoin consumption vouchers to drive a multiplier effect, with administrative costs borne by the licensed companies.
